My tangle pattern 'Sabal'

I'll be off to the Coast in a few minutes (poor hubby.  He's jealous of all my travel!).  I'm not certain about either my laptop's repairs or the wifi signal where I'm going, so if you don't hear from me for a few days, you'll know why.

While I was in Florida, I took a few minutes to study a few palm tree trunks.  Here is the first pattern based on what I saw.

  3. can I ask what type of pen you use? I love the way your works looks - they are so painterly and lovely. Mine are always a bit to crisp

  4. This is definitely a case of beauty arising from simplicity. :D I can't wait to try this one out!

  5. Thank you all!

Carol, I mostly use Micron pigmas for the drawing, but often use Sharpie fine pens for drawing up my pattern steps. In the drawing above, I used a Pitt brush pen for the shading, but I commonly use my Micron or Sharpie as though I were working on scratchboard (check out my pattern Contour (http://lifeimitatesdoodles.blogspot.com/2010/03/my-tangle-patternscontour-spot-beedit.html) to see what I mean. But I think the painterly look comes because I don't worry about precision, and I layer. I draw lines over lines, often obliterating what laid down earlier--but that's life. You often catch only hints of what is before you. With my layering, you catch hints of what is layered beneath.
