The summer edition of RubberStampMadness Magazine is out

Image
Okay everyone, cover your ears while I squeal and stomp about in a mad happy dance!

My Summer issue (Issue 176, Vol 34) of RubberStampMadness (RSM) magazine just arrived in the mail, and it is awesome!  Not the least because I have two pieces of my artwork in it.

The inside cover has the ad I did for Viva Las Vegastamps! Every scrap of the page.  There isn't even a white border, lol.  I own that page. (Cover your ears.  I'm squealing again!  I'm so excited--can you tell?)

The second bit is on page 47, and I'm sharing it with other talented members of the Viva Las Vegastamps! Design Team.  Beautiful cards by Terri Sproul, Lyneen Jesse, and Susan M. Brown are sitting on a background done by yours truly.  The design was done by Crea8tive Compass and it's ... can I use the word 'awesome' again?  It's beyond awesome!

The themes for this issue are Family, Steampunk, and Composition.  The articles:

Bleedthrumanade with Telstar and Scrubbing Bubbles

Image
I started this bleedthrumanade way back in February, and then set it aside to work on reviews and design team stuff.  I had totally forgotten about it until I was digging through my journals and sketchbooks.  (for those of you unfamiliar with bleedthrumanades--got lemons, make lemonade.  Got marker bleedthru, make bleedthrumanade.  In other words, I color a page with alcohol markers.  The color bleeds through and shows on the back.  When I've finished drawing on the front, I turn the paper over and draw on the back, using the same color base).

There's no ifs ands or buts--Copics and Rhodia paper are made for each other.  This was done in a Rhodia 'R' pad.  Even on the ivory paper the marker color is brilliant.

Viva Las Vegastamps! Link up Blog Hop-coming soon to a blog near you!

Wow! Does Viva Las Vegastamps! have a blog hop planned or do they have a blog hop planned?

What's a blog hop? Well, it's when a group of people agree to do a post on the same day with a similar theme. In their posts, each person adds links to other people in the hop. The idea is for readers to hop from blog to blog, discovering new sites, learning new techniques and generally enjoying themselves.

The first element making this blog hop a super blog hop is that Mary Vogel Lozinak will be joining us. If you are unfamiliar with her work, I recommend following the above link and checking out her work. She isn't using Zentangle®, but her work has a definite Zentangle® feel. Viva Las Vegastamps! has been creating stamps based off her work, and each participant will create a project using these stamps, including Mary. Ya gotta love it!

The second element that makes this a super hop? YOU can join in and be part of the hop!!!!

Yes! The theme is any art made using Mary Vog…

Review of the Paperblanks Dayplanner 2012

Image
Like most people, I'm drawn to journals, dayplanners, sketchbooks, and notebooks that have beautiful covers.  All too often, though, when I look closer, and actually see the quality of the paper and the covers and the bindings, I set the journal down with regret, and move on.  Most of them are all flash and no substance.

There is one brand of these items though, where both beauty and quality are found and that is Paperblanks. A variety of papers are used, and the binding is always Smythe-sewn, which means it will lie flat, OR hand-sewn, which means it will lie even flatter.

They come in mini-sizes, midi-sizes, maxi-sizes, slims, grandes...the list keeps going.

And the covers....  Oh my!  The covers are drop-dead gorgeous.  They feature artwork from artists such as William Morris, Alphonse Mucha and Leonardo Da Vinci.  They are inspired by things as diverse as Japanese Lacquer boxes and the Book of Kells.  The materials used range from bookboard to leather to silver filagree.  Th…

While you are there, check out the latest plates of rubber up for pre-sale-20% off  plus there is a code for free shipping in the VLVS April newsletter.

I don't know if I've ever explained what the plates of rubber are.  When stamps are sent to the vulcanizer to be pressed into rubber, they are setup on boards with as many stamps on each board as possible.  The boards are pressed into rubber plates.  When the plates arrive, they get cut up into separate stamps.   Obviously, if VLVS has orders for the whole plates, they save money because they don't have to cut the stamps out.

So what do you get with a plate?  Unmounted rubber stamps that you have to cut out yourself.  The number of stamps varies--you might get 15 if the stamps are all small.  You might get 5 if the stamps are all huge.
But either way, you…

Earth Day has come and gone (though, honestly...Earth Day=Every Day!), but there is still time to enter the Earth Day challenge at Viva Las Vegastamps! for a chance to win a $25 GFC certificate.

And they've got some fantastic new stamps for pre-order.  I'm in love with the new botanical plate, and did you see that Pug in the Tophat?  I've got to have that Pug in the Tophat!

I did a hunt around the house for spare change and am taking in bottles, so I can get enough money to buy some of them.  (Okay--I do this once a month or so, anyway, just as part of cleaning up, but hey!  This month I'm using what I find to buy stamps, lol!)

Review of the Renaissance Refilliable Passport Pocket Sized One Book

Image
I've been drooling over the journals and other leather goods at Renaissance Art for quite some time now.    But these days I usually only get to do a few pages in a new journal or sketchbook and then I'm off to work in another.  Given the price for these quality items, it didn't seem a good fit for me at the moment.

The  Refillable Passport Pocket Sized One Book is a fantastic way to check out the quality and enjoy one of these fine books without spending much money.  They are free!

However, there is a $12.97 shipping & handling charge.  They can be sent to U.S. customers only, and they are for new customers only.  One per person.

They come in two versions--the single version has a beaded string bookmark (African Trade Beads are used) and the double version has a loop with no beads or bookmarks.  I opted for the single version because I liked the beads.

I decided to review this journal a little differently.  Since this is a 'refillable' journal, you might not …

Another Dr visit, another Dayrunner drawing

Image
The scan came out a little fuzzy around the wire coil.

Painted with Terri Sproul Mixers. I had some left over Aquamarine Shimmer after mixing it with 3D Crystal Lacquer, and didn't want it to go to waste, so I pulled out my Mead Dayrunner.

Then I stamped these Viva Las Vegastamps! images:
Pheasant-Item 4992 Plate 493
Passion Flower-Item 5027 Plate 493
Daisies-Item 4994 Plate 493
using inkadinkadoo stamp-pad ink in various shades of red.

I used a white Pentel sunburst gel pen for the daisies and highlights, and a Pilot B2P bottle pen to tangle with when I took my mother to her latest doctor's appointment.

It is such a pungent odor that show judges and bridegrooms alike are driven to nibbling nervously on their petals!
I left the bleedthrumanade (got lemons, make lemonade.  Got marker bleed-thru, make bleedthrumanade) for the next person to drawn on or write something about.

Weehah! I scored some stamps!

I'm constantly amazed at how generous people are.
Recently, I won a giveaway from Simply Stampin with Shirl.  She ended up giving a prize to everyone who commented!  She gave them a choice of any three stamps from Viva Las Vegastamps!

Roaring Spring Notebooks & Pads-Review: Elephant Poo-poo; Sugarcane & Landscape Format Writing Pads

Image
Reviewing office supplies for Shoplet has been a blast, because I never know what I'll get for review next.  I was excited when I got the email telling me I'd be getting some Paper Notebooks and Notepads--including an Elephant Poo-poo notebook!

A couple of days ago my package arrived.

It included:
Roaring Spring Landscape Format Writing Pad College Ruled Roaring Spring Landscape Format Writing Pad Quad Ruled Roaring Spring Wirebound Notebook 1 Subject Roaring Spring Wirebound Notebook 3 Subject Roaring Spring Environotes Sugarcane Notebook Roaring Spring Elephant PooPoo Paper

I was asked to review three of these products.  I'm kind of doing four because the Landscape Format Writing Pads are essentially the same except that one is ruled and one has a grid.  I also decided to review the Sugarcane Notebook and, of course, the Elephant PooPoo notebook.

9 1/2 x 6, 1 Subj, 80 Sheets, College-Rule
The Roaring Springs Environotes Sugarcane notebook is pretty standard fare as far as looks a…
